The Youth Shelter Program of Westchester operates the County's only community-based residential alternative to incarceration for youth offenders who are facing charges in the county's adult criminal justice system.

We provide educational, clinical (group, family and individual) services and vocational resources, as well as a robust cultural enhancement program. We offer intensive re-entry and aftercare services tailored for each young person as well as family support.

Job Description:

Seeking experienced residential counselors for community-based program for at-risk youth in Lower Westchester County area. Our pre-adjudication program offers rehabilitation and re-entry opportunities to young men who have been charged with offenses in Westchester County courts. Our youth are court-referred and thus highly motivated to succeed. Counselors should consider themselves role models in word and deed. We offer a highly structured environment which promotes principles of positive youth development and community justice. We operate an alternative educational and a vocational training program. Emphasis is placed on character-building and social development.

Successful candidates will have some experience working in residential environments, an ability to work effectively with at-risk youth and a commitment to our mission and vision.

We seek motivated individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of our youth.

Weekend availability is required. Counselors work alternate weekends and some evenings.

Valid NYS Driver License is Required
TCI Training Preferred

Development Coordinator

The Youth Shelter Program of Westchester (YSOW) is seeking a dynamic, part-time (3 days per week) Development Coordinator to grow and develop all aspects of our individual giving program.

The Youth Shelter Program Westchester County’s only alternative to incarceration program for youth offenders to age 21 who are charged with offenses in the county’s adult jail system. For over 40 years we have provided a safe community-based residential alternative to the jail system, providing education, counseling, vocational and intensive aftercare support and training.

In recent years, we have begun to reach out to individual donors and foundations to supplement our core government funding. The Development Coordinator will be responsible for guiding the growth of all revenue from individual and corporate donors. Working closely with the Executive Director and members of the Board of Directors, will:

  • Identify and cultivate wealthy donors capable of making major gifts.

  • Solicit individual gifts through annual mail campaign.

  • Oversee annual fundraising dinner.

The successful candidate will be very well organized, a self-starter, and have outstanding written and oral communication, must be proficient with and have excellent computer skills. He/she will have excellent interpersonal skills and will be comfortable working with staff and volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds. He/she will be a strong team player who is comfortable with supervision, yet works well autonomously.

We are seeking an individual with 2-5 years of experience working in a non-profit development office, or 1-3 years of such experience along with formal education in fundraising.  Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Earned (paid-time off) benefits will be pro-rated.

Social Worker/Program Director

So. Westchester County Adolescent Residential Program seeks experienced Program Director to work with youth, ages 16-21 involved in the criminal justice system. Candidate must possess MSW/MA or Masters Degree in a related field, with 4 years supervisory experience. Licensure required. Knowledge of Mental Health, Substance Abuse, and the Criminal Justice system necessary to fill position. Must have experience working with at-risk adolescents, as well as facilitating therapeutic groups. Program Director will report directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities include:


  • Ability to gain clearance to local jails to determine appropriateness of defendants and eligibility for placement at program.

  • Assess the therapeutic needs of residents within the residence.

  • Oversee day-to-day program operations.

  • Clinical intervention with residents including individual evaluation and therapy, group work, and crisis management as needed.

  • Develop a treatment plan for each resident including transitional/aftercare planning.

  • Supervision of Senior Staff members.

  • Complete staff performance evaluations.

  • Ability to manage fiscal matters, contracts, and revenue expenses of a non-profit organization. 

  • Maintain relevant records, review, and ensure compliance of all governmental regulatory standards of the residence.

  • Interaction and advocacy with attorneys and court personnel.

  • Knowledge of family dynamics necessary for consultation with families of residents.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.


Hours: Full-time with some evening hours expected.

Salary: $50,000 + DOE


Only serious candidates will be considered. Valid NY State Driver’s License and Bi-lingual a plus
